Reigning NACRA 7s champions, Guyana, had a rough time of it competing in the 2015 Cathy Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens.
The Green Machine, as they are called, lost all three games and seemed to have run out of gas even before they arrived.
Guyana was routed 36-0 by Zimbabwe before being clobbered 50-5 by Spain. It was not to get any easier against Tonga, which ran roughshod over them 36-4.
It was a reality that captain Ryan Gonsalves may have seen coming prior to their departure, but had remained unperturbed.
“These teams are top level teams we’ll be playing against, some of the highest playing nations week-in-week-out, but we’re going to try our best to see if we can knockoff one or two of them because we have nothing to lose,” he said.
“We are the underdogs heading to that tournament and we’re very confident that we can win two or three games and take it from there.”
