More than 50 schools are expected to participate in the 10th annual National School Basketball Festival (NSBF) set to begin on April 20.
The competition will see schools compete, in the Under-14, Under-16, Under-19 and girls categories, in six regional zones.
The regional tournament will run through June 28 and the regional finals will be on July 4.  The NSBF champions will play from July 3 to 13.
According to Chris Bowman head of Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG), one of the organisers of the tournament, the competition started out with 18 teams in 2006, and has grown steadily over the past nine years.
President of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) Nigel Hinds said the federation is willing to work along with the YBG as they strive to bring to prominence to Guyana.
The GABF and the YBG over the last two years, has had its fair share of ups and downs, with the two parties falling out on several occasions. Hinds, however, believed that some disagreements are necessary to bring about the right balance, especially in basketball.
