A 27-year-old minibus conductor was shot around 12:20 hrs yesterday, under questionable circumstances.
The man has been identified as Travis Lowenfield of Sparendaam Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Lowenfield, who was shot to his abdomen, is nursing his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). Up to press time he was in the operating theatre at the institution.
Yesterday, the injured man’s brother, who asked for his name to be withheld, said that he was in the lower flat of his two-storey home when he heard a loud explosion in the upper flat. He explained that he ran upstairs and saw his brother holding his abdomen, walking towards him.
“He was in the verandah walking towards me, holding his belly. Blood was pouring out. He tell me he get shoot,” the sibling said. He added that after his brother informed him that he had been shot, he did not ask him any questions and instead, rushed him to the hospital.
He said that the wounded man called out a name and alleged that individual had shot him.
However, there are reports that the shooting may have been accidental, but no weapon was found at the scene.
Investigations are ongoing.
